NACA distributes new coats, collects for holiday meals

December 9, 2010

The Native American Children's Association, NACA, a nonprofit, based in Red Lodge, distributed hundreds of new winter coats to local children on Friday, December 3rd, at Red Lodge's Roosevelt School.  The nonprofit was founded in 2006, by Red Lodge residents, Eleanor and Mariann Guerrero, to help youth in urban, rural and reservation locations.  The organization provides mentoring, supplies art materials and lessons, and works to meet material needs in remote areas and assist families in these difficult economic times with sneakers, back packs, clothing and food.

NACA is soliciting cash donations for their annual Holiday Meal Drive- Mail to: NACA - 24 East Palisade Basin Drive, Red Lodge, MT. 59068. "We purchase whole turkeys and hams and distribute them to our community and remote reservations and towns.

Unemployment rates on reservations are as high as 80%, according to US Government statistics, " explained Eleanor J. Guerrero, Executive Director.

"Whether here in Red Lodge, or in an isolated Montana town, the gift of a whole ham or turkey can feed a family for a week.  I urge those blessed with abundance to send a check to NACA and 100% will go to providing Holiday meals for others.  NACA will also being doing another Turkey Feast for the Red Lodge Boys and Girls Club over the Holidays with dinner and all the trimmings."

We are planning major events for the 2007-2008 year.  We will help support children at the Crow Reservation; the Northern Cheyenne; the Assiniboine-Sioux Tribes, and the Blackfeet in MT.  Plans are being made with the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in CO as well.
